Rules
The Korloff Top Jump International competition is a new competition sanctionned
by the ISU. It is a several round competition, with direct elimination, based
exclusively on jumps.
Eighteen skaters take part to the final, 9 ladies and 9 men. Two of the nine
finalists are picked up from the qualification where the rules are exactly the
same as those of the final.
During the final, each skater has to perform several jumps, from the easiest
ones to the most difficult. There are two attempts granted for each jump, which
have to be taken within 2 minutes of time. The countdown is stopped after the
first jump for the 7 judges to give their marks. The different marks are :
A jump is considered failed if it includes :
take-off : fall, two-foot take-off for an edge jump, take-off on the wrong edge
landing : fall, insufficient number of rotation, incomplete rotation, step-out, landing on a wrong edge, landing not-stable, over-rotation after landing, hand or leg touching the ice
Moreover, combinations must not include additional rotation between the jumps.
The other criteria for marking a jump are : speed, height and length of the jump,
take-off and landing techniques. For a combination, both jumps must be perfectly
executed to be marked.
The highest score is 28 (7 * 4). In order to reach the subsequent round, a skater
must have achieved the average mark (2) by the majority of judges (4). If not
the skater is eliminated.
After a successful first jump a skater, can decide whether or not to attempt
the second jump to try to improve the score.
All the marks are added and multiplied by a coefficient which increases with
the difficulty of the jumps and the number of the round. The jump required and
the difficulty coefficient are as follow :

A draw decides the starting order for the first round. After
the first round an intermediary result is released, the skater with the highest
score (total of the judge mark multiplied by the difficulty coefficient) being
in first. The starting order of the second round is the reverse order of this
intermediary result; the same thing applies for the following rounds.
If more than one skater reaches the final round, the one with the highest score
wins.
In case of a tie, the winner is the skater to perform the highest number of
double Axel in a row.
